Owners or occupants of single-family residences may keep up to 4 hens for household egg production, overriding any local ordinances, HOA rules, or other restrictions to the contrary

Roosters are prohibited unless expressly permitted by local government or HOA; additional hens beyond 4 may be allowed at local discretion

Eggs produced under this act may be sold, bartered, or exchanged if sales comply with Idaho food safety and cottage food laws

Local governments and HOAs retain authority to regulate sanitation, enclosure location, noise, odor, and pest control, but cannot impose total bans on household egg production at single-family homes

Effective July 1, 2026, with prospective application only—does not affect enforcement actions or penalties finalized before that date
