Increases death benefits under the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) from $3,000 to $5,000 for covered employees and annuitants.

Applies the increased death benefit to deaths occurring on or after the effective date of the act, regardless of when the deceased person was in service.

Amends the State Mandates Act to exempt municipalities from state reimbursement requirements for implementing this mandate.

Modifies six sections of the Illinois Pension Code (7-118, 7-158, 7-164, 7-172, 7-205, 7-206) to reflect the higher death benefit amount throughout IMRF provisions.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
