HB0547 - Identity Protection Act

• Prohibits publicly posting, printing on access cards, or transmitting social security numbers over unsecured internet connections beginning July 1, 2010.

• Restricts collection, use, and disclosure of social security numbers to instances required by law or documented as necessary for agency duties, with limited exceptions for court orders, safety purposes, and fraud prevention.

• Prohibits encoding or embedding social security numbers in cards or documents using barcodes, chips, magnetic strips, or RFID technology beginning December 31, 2009.

• Requires state and local government agencies to draft and implement identity-protection policies within 12 months including employee training, access restrictions, and public disclosure procedures.

• Establishes intentional violations as Class B misdemeanor and exempts judicial branch and circuit court clerks from requirements, though the Supreme Court must adopt comparable regulations.
