IL HB0701

Amends the Unified Code of Corrections (730 ILCS 5/5-5-3.2) to modify how courts calculate the 10-year period for imposing extended term sentences when a defendant has prior felony convictions.

Expands the time exclusions from the 10-year lookback period to include not only time spent in custody but also the defendant's voluntary absence from the court's jurisdiction during pending criminal proceedings.

Applies when a defendant is convicted of any felony after a previous conviction of the same or similar class felony (or greater class felony) within 10 years, provided charges are separately brought and tried and arise from different series of acts.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
