HB0985 - Genetically Engineered Food Right To Know Act

• Creates mandatory labeling requirement for all foods containing or produced with genetically engineered material, with labels placed in conspicuous locations.

• Requires labels to display the specific text: "This product contains a genetically engineered material or was produced with a genetically engineered material."

• Defines foods produced with genetically engineered material to include those from organisms injected with genetically engineered material, animals fed genetically engineered material, or foods with genetically engineered ingredients.

• Excludes raw agricultural commodities from labeling requirements, and specifies that manure use as fertilizer does not constitute production with genetically engineered material.

• Authorizes the Department of Public Health to create rules necessary for implementing the Act.
