HB 1012 Summary

• Increases petition signature requirement for new political parties to at least twice the minimum number of signatures required for an established party candidate for the office with the lowest signature requirement on that party's slate

• Increases petition signature requirement for independent candidates to at least twice the minimum number of signatures required for established party candidates for the same office

• Removes previous signature requirements based on percentages of prior election voters and fixed numbers (such as 1% of statewide voters or 25,000 voters for statewide party formation)

• Eliminates special redistricting provisions that had set lower signature thresholds for congressional, legislative, and representative districts following redistricting

• Applies new doubled signature requirements uniformly across all jurisdictional levels (state, district, and local political subdivisions)
