HB2340 Summary

• Replaces "Director" with "Secretary" and "Department of Professional Regulation" with "Department of Financial and Professional Regulation" throughout the Structural Engineering Practice Act.

• Increases Structural Engineering Board from 6 to 7 members, requires 6 members be licensed structural engineers (increased from 5), and limits board member service to 10 years in a lifetime (reduced from 14 consecutive years).

• Allows Department to order reexamination when Secretary is not satisfied substantial justice was done in an examination.

• Authorizes Department to take disciplinary action including fines up to $10,000 for tax violations, unlicensed practice, and mental or physical impairment; establishes procedures for mental or physical examinations with 15-day hearing requirement if suspended.

• Denies licenses or renewals to applicants who have defaulted on state educational loans or scholarships, or are delinquent on child support obligations.
