IL HB2457

Amends the Election Code to authorize election authorities to use newspaper obituaries as an additional method to identify and remove deceased persons from voter registration records.

Requires that obituaries be from newspapers with general circulation in the municipality or county where the deceased person lived before death.

Mandates that election authorities obtain written confirmation from a funeral director at the funeral home or service location before canceling a registration based on an obituary.

Maintains existing requirement that county clerks examine vital records monthly to cancel registrations of persons who died in the preceding month.

Applies to county clerks in counties outside certain metropolitan areas (Section 4-14.1), election authorities in counties with specific population thresholds (Section 5-9.1), and boards of election commissioners in other jurisdictions (Section 6-55).
