IL HB2620

Amends the Election Code (10 ILCS 5/10-2) to reduce petition signature requirements for forming new political parties at the state and local levels.

Changes the minimum petition signatures required for a new state political party to match the requirement for established party candidates for state office: the lesser of 25,000 signatures or 1% of voters in the most recent general election.

Changes the minimum petition signatures required for a new local political party to match the requirement for the established party candidate on the slate with the highest signature requirement, replacing the previous 5% voter threshold.

Removes special redistricting provisions that previously set fixed signature requirements (5,000 for congressional districts, 3,000 for legislative districts, 1,500 for representative districts, and 5% calculations for county and municipal districts).

Maintains existing requirements that new political party petitions include a complete list of candidates for all offices to be filled and must be filed with appropriate state or local election officials.
