Creates a new offense under Illinois Criminal Code (720 ILCS 5/31-4.5) for making false statements to peace officers or criminal investigative officers.

Applies when a person knowingly makes a false statement to a state or local law enforcement officer regarding a criminal matter under investigation by that officer.

Requires that a prosecutor working with the officer must first inform the person during the interview that knowingly false statements constitute a criminal offense.

Classifies violation of this offense as a Class 4 felony.
