IL HB4657

Allows active firefighters to establish creditable pension service for time spent as on-call or volunteer firefighters at a rate of 1 year of service credit for every 5 years of on-call or volunteer service.

Requires firefighters to have at least 5 years of creditable service as an active firefighter and to have spent at least 5 years as an on-call or volunteer firefighter for a municipality to be eligible.

Limits the maximum creditable service that may be granted to 3 years and requires the firefighter to contribute employee contributions based on salary and contribution rates at the date of entry into the fund.

Requires municipal consent before an employee may establish creditable service for on-call or volunteer firefighter time.

Amends the State Mandates Act to exempt this provision from state reimbursement requirements and makes the changes effective immediately.
