IL HB4666

Amends the Unified Code of Corrections to require courts to sentence defendants to natural life imprisonment when the death penalty is not imposed if the defendant is found guilty of an offense involving the use of a firearm in the commission of that offense.

Adds firearm-related offenses as a mandatory natural life sentence trigger under subsection (a)(1)(c)(viii) of Section 5-8-1, applicable to crimes committed on or after the effective date of the act.

Specifies that the natural life sentence for firearm-related offenses applies notwithstanding any other provision of law providing for a lesser sentence.

Maintains existing provisions for mandatory natural life sentences in first-degree murder cases with specific aggravating circumstances, including prior murder convictions, murders of children under 12, multiple victims, and murders of peace officers or emergency personnel.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
