Nursing home administrators may seek orders of protection on behalf of residents to protect them from abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986

Facilities must take appropriate steps to enforce orders of protection for residents or staff members when they have reasonable knowledge of such orders, including reporting violations to law enforcement agencies

Facilities taking steps to enforce valid orders of protection are held harmless from sanctions under the Nursing Home Care Act

Facilities reporting violations of orders of protection are held harmless from sanctions if they demonstrate good faith efforts to secure enforcement of the order

Act takes effect immediately upon becoming law
