HB5232 Summary

• Amends the Notice By Publication Act and Newspaper Legal Notice Act to require newspapers publishing legal notices to place them on a statewide website maintained by Illinois newspapers at no additional cost to government.

• Expands publication options for legal notices when no newspaper exists in the required jurisdiction by allowing publication in an adjoining county's newspaper with general circulation in the original jurisdiction.

• Adds a new requirement that newspapers must have the capability to place notices on a daily or weekly basis on the statewide website to be eligible for publishing legal notices.

• Provides that all legal notices remain valid even if placement on the statewide website fails due to printer error, protecting the validity of notices against technical failures.

• Takes effect December 31, 2012.
