HB6001 Summary

• Amends the Professional Geologist Licensing Act by updating terminology to replace "professional geologist" with "Licensed Professional Geologist" throughout the statute.

• Expands examination eligibility to allow graduates with geology degrees and students who have completed required coursework to request taking one or both parts of the licensing exam under a new intern process established by the Department.

• Extends the timeframe for applicants to complete the examination process from 3 years to 6 years after filing an application before the application is denied.

• Adds a 3-year deadline for completion of the license-by-endorsement application process; applicants who do not complete within this period must reapply and meet current requirements.

• Allows students pursuing geology degrees to practice under supervision of either a licensed geologist or a geology teacher at an accredited college or university, for up to 9 months as part of supervised coursework.
