HB6213 Summary

• Amends the Unified Code of Corrections Section 5-5-3.2 to add new sentencing aggravation factors that courts must consider when imposing prison sentences or more severe sentences.

• Adds factor (25) allowing courts to consider crimes committed on public transportation (trains, buses, or other vehicles) as an aggravating factor in sentencing.

• Adds factor (26) establishing mandatory extended term sentences when a defendant is convicted of child pornography or aggravated child pornography involving sexual penetration or sadistic abuse of children.

• Adds new subsection (c-5) requiring mandatory extended term sentences when a defendant is convicted of first, second degree murder, or involuntary manslaughter where the victim was under 18 years old and death resulted from child abuse.
