• Removes previous restrictions limiting interception authorization to specific crimes including drug trafficking, money laundering, first degree murder, and kidnapping/hostage situations.

• Retains existing authority to authorize interception for gang-related investigations and civil actions under the Illinois Streetgang Terrorism Omnibus Prevention Act.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
