IL HB6930

Amends the Criminal Code of 1961 to add a new Class X felony offense for aggravated battery involving torture that causes great bodily harm or permanent disability or disfigurement.

Defines torture as the intentional infliction of or subjection to extreme physical pain, motivated by an intent to increase or prolong the pain, suffering, or agony of the victim.

Creates paragraph (5.5) in the sentencing section establishing that aggravated battery meeting these torture criteria is punishable as a Class X felony (the most severe felony classification).

Makes the torture enhancement applicable only when the aggravated battery is intentional and involves the specific definition of torture referenced in Section 9-1 of the Criminal Code.
