Illinois House of Representatives calls on Congress and President Barack Obama to maximize investment in expanded and improved passenger train service as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.

Passenger rail service is identified as offering strong return on investment through environmental benefits, economic development by connecting cities and regions, and creation of permanent jobs in service operation and infrastructure maintenance.

Railroad jobs are characterized as typically well-paying full-time positions with benefits that exceed the nation's median income.

Resolution urges Congress and the President to pursue 100% federally-funded investment in passenger rail expansion and improvement to create lasting prosperity through environmentally-friendly regional and national connections.

Copies of the resolution shall be sent to President Barack Obama, the U.S. Senate Majority Leader, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and each member of the Illinois Congressional delegation.
