Bisphenol A (BPA) is found in consumer products including baby bottles, reusable polycarbonate plastic containers, and epoxy resin coatings in food and beverage cans, including canned infant formula

The FDA formed an agency-wide BPA task force to review current research and evaluate information on BPA for FDA-regulated products and provide recommendations to the Commissioner

The FDA task force reviewed concerns from the National Toxicology Program (September 2008), Canadian risk assessment (October 2008), and European Food Safety Authority assessments, which concluded no current health risk exists at current exposure levels

Urges the United States Food and Drug Administration to expedite its current review of the safety of bisphenol A in food-contact products and take appropriate action based on findings

Directs that a copy of the resolution be presented to the FDA Commissioner and each member of the Illinois congressional delegation
