Estimates indicate 61 percent of U.S. adults are currently overweight or obese, with approximately 300,000 deaths annually associated with obesity in the United States.

Obesity in college students has doubled over the past 10 years, partly due to universities contracting meal services to fast food chains like McDonald's, Domino's Pizza, and Taco Bell.

Many universities lack fresh and healthy food choices and fail to educate students about how unhealthy food selections contribute to serious health conditions including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer.

Urges the U.S. President and Congress to pass legislation regulating the nutritional content of food offered by universities, particularly historically black universities, to their students on campus.

Directs presentation of this resolution to President Barack Obama and members of the Illinois congressional delegation.
