Spartan Light Metal Products has been a family-owned magnesium die casting company since 1961 and employs over 600 people as an industry leader in custom die castings.

U.S. tariffs 731-TA-1071 and 731-TA-1072 on imported magnesium alloys from China and Russia are harming the domestic die casting industry by allowing the nation's sole magnesium producer to set uncompetitive prices.

The tariffs disadvantage U.S. car manufacturers in meeting fuel economy requirements and have caused approximately 60% of Spartan Light Metal Products' magnesium business for 2011 to disappear.

Urges the President and Congress to lift tariffs 731-TA-1071 and 731-TA-1072 on die cast magnesium alloys from China and Russia, or alternatively place equivalent tariffs on imported assemblies and finished products made from die cast magnesium alloys.

Directs copies of the resolution to be sent to the President of the United States and members of the Illinois congressional delegation.
