Regiment participated in multiple campaigns including marches through Kentucky and Tennessee, and fought in the Battle of Stone River on December 31, 1862

79th Infantry suffered 297 total fatalities including 4 officers and 81 enlisted men killed in action or from wounds, plus 1 officer and 211 enlisted men who died from disease

Regiment was mustered out of service on June 12, 1865, arrived at Camp Butler on June 15, 1865, and received final pay and discharge on June 23, 1865

House urges the Governor to reactivate the 79th Volunteer Infantry Regiment to honor the service and dedication of those who served during the Civil War's 150th anniversary in 2011
