Sarah Jane Clarke of Olive Branch, Illinois, passed away on June 28, 2010, at age 78.

She served as director of the Shawnee Development Council and held charter board positions with Illinois Ventures for Community Action and the Illinois Community Action Association.

She was recognized for writing and obtaining grants that funded the nutrition program, Daystar nursing home, and Southern Five Regional Planning Commission, and received the Harry Ring Outstanding Service Award.

She held numerous local leadership roles including past president of the Cairo Junior Woman's Club, Cairo Chamber of Commerce director, and chairman of the Alexander County Democratic Women's Organization.

The Illinois House of Representatives mourns her passing and directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to her family; she is survived by her husband Peter J. Clarke, five adult children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
