Honors U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Robert J. Newton of Creve Coeur, who died on August 23, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan.

LCpl. Newton graduated from East Peoria Community High School in 2007 and served in the Marine Corps since June 2007, assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California.

Recipient of military decorations including the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and NATO Medal.

Survived by parents Richard and Denise Newton and sister Breanna.

Illinois House of Representatives expresses sympathy to the family and directs that a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to LCpl. Newton's family.
