Illinois House of Representatives honors Dr. Brenda Parks-Johnson, who passed away on August 10, 2010, and was born March 23, 1968, in Chicago.

Dr. Parks-Johnson earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Northwestern University and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, completing a Family Practice and Internal Medicine Residency at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans.

She worked as a physician at multiple Chicago-area healthcare facilities including Circle Family Care Network, Family Christian Health Center in Harvey, and PCC Wellness Center in Oak Park, providing obstetrical services and family practice care.

Dr. Parks-Johnson was known for her personal involvement with patients, community outreach in the Austin neighborhood, and medical mission work in St. Lucia and Ghana.

She is survived by her husband Hampton Simmons III, daughters Kara and Shayla, father John Parks Jr., and extended family and numerous godchildren and friends.
