Honors Lance Corporal Alec E. Catherwood of Byron, Illinois, who died on October 14, 2010, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while serving in the United States Marines Corps.

Catherwood was born May 6, 1991, in Heilbronn, Germany, graduated from Byron High School in 2009, and enlisted in the Marines on June 1, 2009, fulfilling a lifelong ambition to serve.

Received military awards including the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Survived by parents Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood, sister Mikaela Montgomery, and fiancée Hailey Patrick, whom he was scheduled to marry on July 2, 2011.

Illinois House of Representatives mourns his passing and honors his memory and sacrifice; directs a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to his family.
