Lance Corporal James Bray Stack, born July 11, 1990 in Schaumburg, died on November 10, 2010 in the Sangin District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan while serving as a rifleman with India Company of the Darkhorse 3/5 Marines.

Stack was home-schooled through Christian Liberty Academy, played soccer and was named Most Valuable Player on the school's track team, where he met his future wife Katelyn "Kate" Landeweer.

Stack's military awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

United States and Illinois State flags were ordered to fly at half-staff from November 18-20, 2010 in honor of Stack's sacrifice.

Stack is survived by his wife Kate, 1-year-old daughter Mikayla, parents Robert and Linda Stack, sister Megan Lorraine Stack, and extended family members.
