Ron Santo, Chicago Cubs third baseman, died on December 3, 2010, at age 70 after a career spanning 1960-1973 with the Cubs and 1974 with the White Sox.

Santo compiled a .277 batting average with 2,254 hits, 342 home runs, and 1,331 RBIs; was named to 9 All-Star teams; won 5 Gold Glove awards; and had his No. 10 jersey retired by the Cubs in 2003.

Santo was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age 18 and continued managing the condition throughout his life while later serving as a WGN-AM radio broadcaster.

Santo created the annual Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes in 1974, which has raised over $50 million for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and was named JDRF "Person of the Year" in 2002.

The Illinois House of Representatives expresses condolences to Santo's surviving wife Vicki, four children, and two grandchildren.
