A.L. Lukens of West Frankfort passed away on May 25, 2010, at the age of 84 (born October 14, 1925).

Lukens served in the United States Air Force beginning in 1944 and had a long career in business, including as vice president/general manager of Bonifield Bros. Truck Line and sales manager at Hulbert Oil, where he worked as a consultant until age 78.

He was instrumental in West Frankfort community development, serving as president of the Jaycees (state vice president), volunteer fireman, West Frankfort Park Board president, and Franklin County Country Club president for 5 years.

Lukens was a golf enthusiast starting at age 45 and built custom golf clubs as a hobby; he co-founded the Candy Cane Lane Christmas light display tradition that brought joy to thousands for 25 years.

The Illinois House of Representatives expresses its sympathy to his surviving family: wife Dorothy, daughter Sally, son Allen, sisters Jan and Kay, five grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
