SB2279 - Early Graduation Tuition Waiver Act

• Students who graduate from grades 9-12 at an Illinois secondary school recognized by the State Board of Education in less than 4 school years are entitled to receive a tuition waiver to a public university in Illinois.

• The length of the tuition waiver equals the difference between 8 semesters and the actual number of semesters the student was enrolled in grades 9-12.

• Tuition waivers exempt holders from paying tuition, matriculation, graduation, activity, term, and incidental fees, but do not cover book rental, lab fees, service fees, union building fees, hospital fees, medical insurance fees, or fees pledged to bond payments.

• The State Board of Education receives and awards applications for tuition waivers each year to eligible applicants.

• Students who paid covered fees before receiving a waiver must be reimbursed if they apply within 2 months following the school term when fees were paid.

• Act takes effect July 1, 2009.
