SB2549 Summary

• Amends the Illinois Plumbing License Law to include rainwater harvesting distribution systems as part of the definition of plumbing, requiring these systems to be for non-potable use only and constructed in accordance with the Illinois Plumbing Code.

• Excludes rainwater harvesting collection systems from the definition of plumbing unless otherwise required by the Illinois Plumbing Code.

• Requires the Illinois Department of Public Health to adopt and publish minimum code standards for both rainwater harvesting collection systems and rainwater harvesting distribution systems by March 1, 2011.

• Defines "rainwater harvesting collection system" as a system for capturing, diverting, and storing rainwater in cisterns with necessary pipes, fittings, and appurtenances for non-potable purposes.

• Defines "rainwater harvesting distribution system" as a system for distributing rainwater collected from an approved harvesting collection system using pumps, pipes, fittings, and other plumbing appurtenances, constructed according to the Illinois Plumbing Code.
