IL SB2843

Creates the Task Force on the Prevention of Sexual Abuse of Children within the Department of Children and Family Services, composed of legislators, agency officials, representatives from law enforcement and teachers' organizations, child abuse prevention advocates, and Erin Merryn.

Task Force must gather information on child sexual abuse, receive testimony from agencies and organizations, create state policy goals for prevention, and submit final recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly by January 1, 2012.

Requires school districts to adopt and implement policies addressing sexual abuse of children, which may include age-appropriate curriculum for pre-K through 5th grade, staff training, and parent education on warning signs.

School district policies must address methods to increase awareness of sexual abuse, actions victims should take to obtain assistance, and available counseling options for affected students.

Task Force members serve without compensation or expense reimbursement, and the Task Force dissolves after submitting its final report; this legislation is referred to as "Erin's Law."
