SB3222 Summary

• Extends tuition freeze protection for Illinois undergraduate residents who maintain the same tuition rate for 4 continuous academic years following initial enrollment (or longer for programs requiring more than 4 years).

• Allows students who change majors during the protected period to be charged the tuition rate for their new major from their enrollment year, rather than facing increases.

• Adds provision permitting students who complete 4 years at the frozen rate to continue for up to 2 additional academic years at the tuition rate charged to first-year students in the year following their initial enrollment.

• Applies identical tuition protection provisions to University of Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, and Western Illinois University.

• Effective date: July 1, 2010.
