Designates April 20-26, 2009, as "Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week" in Illinois in honor of survivors and non-survivors of the condition.

Notes that nearly 900,000 children were victims of abuse and neglect in 2004, with almost 4 children dying daily from abuse-related causes.

States that abusive head trauma and Shaken Baby Syndrome is the leading cause of death in physically abused children, with an estimated 300 deaths and 600-1,200 injuries annually in the United States.

Recognizes that education and prevention programs targeting parents, caregivers, daycare workers, and professionals have demonstrated significant reduction in Shaken Baby Syndrome cases.

Commends hospitals, schools, child care councils, and organizations working to increase awareness and educate the public on preventing injuries to young children from shaking.
