Memorializes Vern I. McCarthy Jr. of Oak Brook, who died on February 25, 2010, at age 82.

McCarthy was born May 12, 1927, in Melrose Park and worked with the family business Vulcan Containers, Inc. in Bellwood throughout his youth before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After his military service, McCarthy attended Southwest Missouri State College briefly before returning to work at Vulcan Containers, eventually winding down his involvement in the late 1970s to pursue his passions in politics and jazz.

McCarthy is survived by three children (Kenton V., Leslie A., and Brian P. McCarthy), five grandchildren, his sister Rianna Williams, and several close friends.

The Illinois Senate expresses sympathy to McCarthy's family and directs that a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to them.
