John W. Cockrell of Eagle River, Wisconsin, formerly of Downers Grove, died on June 28, 2010, at age 87.

Served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific theatre and was elected Justice of the Peace from Downers Grove Township in 1958.

Elected Clerk of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in 1971 and served until retirement in 1991, introducing computers to the second largest court system in Illinois.

Served as President of the Illinois Association of Court Clerks and President of the Illinois Association of County Officials during his career.

Survived by his wife Helen of 61 years, three daughters, one sister, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
