Carl L. Matthews of Ottawa, Chicago, and Glencoe passed away on June 26, 2010, and the Illinois Senate expresses its condolences to his family and friends.

Matthews was born on December 21, 1918, and served in the Air Corps in Europe during World War II.

He married Marguerite Hughes on August 6, 1949, and worked for Mutual Trust Life Insurance for 25 years before retiring.

Matthews and his wife served as Co-Presidents of the Chicago Federation of the Christian Family Movement, were involved with the Howard Area Community Center, and were devoted members of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by three children (Mark, Peggy Kirk, and the late Nancy Moore) and four grandchildren (Kathryn, Christopher, Kaitlin, and Michael).
