Alex Lopez, born November 1965 in Weslaco, Texas, died; he was a native of Chicago Heights who graduated from Bloom Township High School in 1983 and earned a finance degree from Western Illinois University in 1988.

Served on Chicago Heights Park District board as commissioner from 1995 to 2003.

Held positions as director of Thornwood Apartments (2003-2006) and Chicago Heights Park District superintendent (2006-2007).

Elected to Chicago Heights City Council as 2nd Ward alderman in 2007 and appointed Mayor of Chicago Heights in April 2009, serving until his death.

Illinois Senate mourns his passing and directs a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to his family as an expression of sympathy.
