Joseph Paul Maher Jr. of Alton passed away on October 16, 2010, at age 83.

Served in the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1948 and worked for Amoco Refinery for 40 years before retiring in 1985.

Served as an alderman for the city of Alton for 25 years and was active in St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Alton Eagles 254.

Survived by his wife Alice Marie, five children, multiple grandchildren, and four siblings.

Illinois Senate expresses condolences to the family and directs presentation of a memorial copy of this resolution to them.
