U.S. Army Sergeant Mark A. Simpson of Peoria, Illinois died on September 26, 2010, in Kandahar, Afghanistan while stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

Born February 3, 1970, Sgt. Simpson was a Richwood High School graduate who joined the Army in 2005 after working as a security guard, truck driver, and in food management.

Sgt. Simpson earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with bronze service star, Iraq Campaign Medal with bronze service star, and multiple other military honors.

Sgt. Simpson is survived by his wife Aletha, daughters Shantallia, Krystin, and Jamie, parents George and Carol Simpson, brother George F. Simpson, and sisters Beth Camp, Carol Goewey, and Amy Lee.

The Illinois Senate mourns Sgt. Simpson's passing and will present a suitable copy of this resolution to his family as an expression of sympathy.
