Helen Dorothy Schroder of Naperville passed away on September 10, 2010, and the Illinois Senate expresses mourning for her death.

Born on a farm in Elmira, she graduated from Kewanee High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado in 1939 on a full scholarship.

Taught at elementary schools in central Illinois and volunteered extensively for charitable organizations including Meals on Wheels, the YMCA, PADS, and Little Friends, receiving the 1983 Volunteer of the Year award.

Worshipped at First Congregational Church in Naperville for more than five decades and participated in the Illinois Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign in the 1980s.

Survived by daughters Mary Sue Kitchen and Elizabeth Hopkins, son Robert, sister Betty Hyer, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
