Carl L. Matthews of Ottawa, Chicago, and Glencoe passed away on June 26, 2010, at age 91.

Served in the U.S. Air Corps in Europe during World War II and worked 25 years as a career insurance agent with Mutual Trust Life Insurance before retirement.

Married Marguerite Hughes on August 6, 1949, and was a devoted Catholic who served as Co-President of the Chicago Federation of the Christian Family Movement.

Volunteered extensively with the Howard Area Community Center, where the annual "Volunteer of the Year" award is now named in his honor.

Survived by his wife of 61 years, three children (Mark, Peggy, and the late Nancy), and four grandchildren (Kathryn, Christopher, Kaitlin, and Michael).
