William Giddens was born August 3, 1925, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to parents William and Mary Jane Giddens.

Served in the United States Navy starting in 1942, attending boot camp in Farragut, Idaho, and serving on the U.S.S. Steamer Bay in the south Pacific during World War II.

After military service, attended barber school and owned a barbershop in Waukegan, served as the first alderman of the 7th Ward in North Chicago, and worked for the Lake County Sheriff's office for over 20 years before retiring.

Member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Illinois Police Association, Masonic lodge for 50 years, Scottish Rite, Tebala Shrine Temple, Tebala Motor Patrol, and lifetime member of VFW Post 7448; visited all 50 states with particular fondness for Wyoming and Montana, and visited Yellowstone Park 55 times.

The Illinois Senate expresses condolences on the passing of William Giddens and directs that a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to his family.
