Illinois Senate mourns the death of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Matthew W. Weikert of Jacksonville, killed in action near Orgun, Afghanistan on July 17, 2010

SSG Weikert was born May 15, 1981 in Sioux City, Iowa and was a Jacksonville High School Class of 2000 member

Served 3 tours in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps (August 2001 onwards) and later joined the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division, completing one Iraq tour before deploying to Afghanistan

Survived by his parents Richard W. and Susan B. Kiel Weikert, son Jayse Schaecher Weikert, sisters Meghan and Melissa Weikert, and extended family

Senate directs that a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to SSG Weikert's family as an expression of sympathy
