Expresses the Illinois Senate's condolences for the death of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Alec E. Catherwood of Byron, who died on October 14, 2010 in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Recognizes that LCpl. Catherwood graduated from Byron High School in 2009 and served as a rifleman with the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California.

Notes LCpl. Catherwood earned the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Korean Defense Service Medal.

Details that LCpl. Catherwood was a Boy Scout, black belt in tae kwon do, and enjoyed athletics and outdoor activities; survived by parents Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood, fiancee Hailey Patrick, sister Mikaela Montgomery, and maternal grandparents Donald and Mary Ernst.

Directs that a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to the family as an expression of sympathy.
