Illinois Senate mourns the death of Hubert Edward Reeves of Prescott, Arizona, formerly of Joliet, who passed away on June 17, 2010.

Reeves graduated from the University of Illinois in 1958 and worked as a computer programmer at APSA in Joliet until retirement.

Served as a private first class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was present at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, where he was hit by mortar fire, beaten by enemy soldiers, and eventually had his feet and fingers amputated in a Japanese hospital.

After the war, Reeves worked on the Korean War Memorial project, served with the Veterans of the Chosin Few, and taught in AWANA programs for 25 years while serving as an evangelist with South American Crusades from 1976 to 1989.

Survived by his wife of 58 years Beverly Jean Reeves, six children, 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and four siblings.
