HB0216 Summary

• Amends the Clerks of Courts Act to authorize circuit court clerks to collect a fee of up to $10 for court interpreter services in criminal and quasi-criminal cases, if authorized by county board ordinance.

• Court interpreter services fee applies to individuals convicted or sentenced to supervision in cases arising from felony, misdemeanor, business offense, petty offense, or minor traffic/ordinance violations.

• Fees collected for court interpreter services must be deposited into a separate Court Interpreter Services Fund, with the chief judge as custodian, to be used for maintaining interpreter services.

• Of the court interpreter services fees collected, 10% shall be deposited into the Circuit Court Clerk Operation and Administrative Fund.

• Effective date: June 1, 2011.
