HB0254 - Pharmacy Practice Act Amendment

• Requires pharmacists to notify patients when dispensing a generic drug with the same active pharmaceutical ingredient from a different manufacturer than previously dispensed by that pharmacy.

• Applies only when a physician or authorized prescriber has not prohibited drug product selection and the pharmacy dispenses a generic instead of the brand name drug.

• Does not apply if the prescriber has marked "may not substitute" on the prescription form.

• Requires pharmacists to record the name or identification of the drug manufacturer on the pharmacy record for all generic substitutions made.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
