IL HB1232

Amends the Violent Crime Victims Assistance Act to allow crime victims and their families to apply directly to the Attorney General for financial assistance from the Violent Crime Victims Assistance Fund.

Authorizes the Attorney General to consider appropriate factors when selecting crime victims and families to receive Fund moneys, with discretionary selection criteria.

Establishes a voucher and warrant process where the Attorney General issues vouchers to the State Comptroller, who examines them and draws warrants for the State Treasurer to countersign and return to the Attorney General for mailing to victims.

Adds definition of "crime victim" as ascribed in Section 3 of the Rights of Crime Victims and Witnesses Act to the Act's definitions section.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
